Just a few weeks ago, the Editor of CITYGUIDE found himself randomly walking through the Toronto streets, meditating and planning as he usually does. This time he took a turn on Richmond Street East, and he came across a new window he had never seen before, took a photo and immediately sent it to the Editorial team to “check this place out”. So we did, and we are glad. It turns out, this beautiful window was home to Suite 22, and by that time, the shop had only been opened for 3 days. So Fresh and New, Suite 22 officially opened its second showroom on July 1st 2014, in Downtown Toronto – a 4,000+ sf lofty space north of King Street East’s Design District. As the brand’s Headquarters (and massive showroom) is located in Markham, owner Roberto D’Ulisse has envisioned bringing his high end contemporary Italian collections directly to his urban clients for a few years now, and finally found a perfect space last May in downtown Toronto.
“We found it, and renovated it, and now we are open – It’s amazing how fast things happen when you want them to – It is a labour of love.” – says Roberto. The Richmond East showroom carries mid to high end Italian dining, living, bedroom furniture and lighting with lines like Bonaldo, Arketipo, Cattelan Italia, Fiam, and Saba, all in a price point that will appeal to any respective design loving client be it trade or retail. The store also carries a handpicked selection of world renowned Kartell brand pieces, and boasts a fully stacked chef’s test kitchen by LAGO Spa. We also especially love the LAGO “Air” Collection they have displayed right now, showing a variety of pieces that seem suspended in air, as they are built primarily with a glass base design. Truly stunning and worth the visit to see this very modern and creative collection available exclusively in Canada through Suite 22.
On Thursday August 14th, the Suite 22 Team officially celebrated it’s launch by throwing an industry event at their showroom, complete with special guest Architect and Industrial Designer Karim Rachid. The space was buzzing with fresh faces, good music, great design and urban fashion as the brand’s patrons came in droves to celebrate the opening and also, Karim Rachid’s newly released auto-biographical book. (a must-have – copies available at Suite 22!) Of course CITYGUIDE was there, and were smitten by the orange and white sweet table, compliments of Petite and Sweet – one of Toronto’s best places to get that “sweet tooth” fix. Now what great Italian night out isn’t complete with a good espresso – thanks to the Coffee trailer/shop/bar outside, the evening was just right. In case you missed it, here is a little peak of Suite 22’s Opening Party.
Cheers, & welcome to Toronto.
