A good interior designer needs a certain skill set and a great eye for detail; but when it comes to great designers…the real ingredient to their success cannot be found it any classroom. It is love and Divine inspiration. And so is the case of two Montreal designers, who have formed the firm SURFACE3.
The way in which CITYGUIDE discovered this design gem, was in the most obvious of ways: while walking by a beautiful store and asking, “who designed this amazing space?” We believe this would have to be the very best praise for any designer; knowing that it was their work that drew someone in, only to fall in love with a newly discovered place. This was the feeling we had in speaking with Carla and Jason of SURAFCE3; they have a sense of pride and connection to their clients, a true respect and appreciation. La Maison Carole Franck Paris, De farine et d’eau fraiche, Ginger – these are a few perfect examples of their successful work, in adding to Montreal’s “Hot Spots”, we call them. They incorporate fresh ideas, innovative designs and allow inspiration to work its magic.
They first develop a brand strategy, and carry it out through the visual concept and design of the interiors. This way, SURFACE3 excels at creating clean, modern and warm spaces, incorporating the identity through every single element.
The duo describes the design concept of De farine & d’eau fraiche, the most beautiful patisserie that is all the rave, as the following; “In designing the space, Surface3 sought to capture the essence of pastries and the way we simple, magical way we enjoy them; from the exchange of pastries as a ritual signifying love and friendship, to the pleasure inherent in simple indulgence. Hanging sculptural lights and custom made furniture finished in dark wood give the feeling that one is in an enchanted forest. The arrangement of space and the many surprising fine details blend with the pastry creations to tell a unique story that is intended to inspire and awaken the youthfulness and magic in everyone.”
SURFACE3 is making a significant impression in Montreal design, and we are looking forward to their next projects, which you will most definitely find right here, on CITYGUIDE.
